New Delhi – ‘The previous Awami League Government of Sheikh Hasina had kept Bangladesh’s borders adjoining India’s eastern borders free from terrorism. Before that, Bangladesh was being used as a base for terrorist activities in India. Now, the same situation will arise again,’ fears Sajeeb Wazed, son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sajeeb Wazed also claimed that “reliable sources in the defense department have informed me that a Bangladeshi terrorist organization was behind the recent bomb blast near the Red Fort in Delhi.”

India should not extradite Sheikh Hasina

The interim Government in Bangladesh has demanded the extradition of Sheikh Hasina from India. India has not given a positive response to this. In this regard, Sajeeb Wazed said that for any valid extradition, all procedures should be followed according to the rules; but the rule-based system in Bangladesh has completely collapsed. My mother was even denied permission to appoint her own lawyer to fight the case in the Court there. Therefore, I do not expect India to do anything on the request of the Bangladesh Government.

Bangladesh will be partitioned

Sajeeb Wazed expressed the expectation that India should work more effectively to resolve the situation in Bangladesh. He said that India should play a more effective role in involving the international community to re-establish the democratic process in Bangladesh. By preventing the Awami League and Jatiya Party, the two major parties in Bangladesh, from participating in the elections, the voting rights of half of Bangladesh’s population have been taken away. Sajeeb Wazed expressed fears at this time that the country would soon be divided.

Editorial Perspective

India has been merely a spectator regarding the situation in Bangladesh for the past year and a half. Wazed is saying that India will have to bear the consequences of this. Will India become proactive and take some action now ?
