Pakistan’s theatrics at the United Nations Security Council

(Claim!) “Kashmir was never a part of India and never will be!”

Pakistan’s coordinator Gul Kaiser Sarwani

New York (US) – At the United Nations Security Council here, Pakistan levelled several baseless allegations against India over the Jammu–Kashmir issue. A day earlier, Indian representatives had strongly criticised Pakistan on the issue of terrorism. In response, Pakistan’s representatives stated in the Security Council that “Kashmir was never a part of India and will never be so.”

During the open debate on the theme ‘Leadership for Peace’, Pakistan’s Coordinator, Gul Qaiser Sarwani, claimed that “Jammu–Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory, and this is not only Pakistan’s position but also the official stance of the United Nations.”

1. Sarwani stated that Kashmir is not a so-called part of India, nor was it ever, nor will it ever be. He alleged that India itself had brought the issue to the Security Council and had accepted the responsibility of allowing the people of Jammu–Kashmir to determine their future through a plebiscite under United Nations supervision. Nearly eight decades have passed, yet this promise has not been fulfilled, he claimed.

2. According to Sarwani, India has deployed a large military force in the region and is curbing fundamental freedoms. Voices expressing independent opinions are being suppressed, and steps are being taken with the intention of altering the region’s demographic composition. He alleged that these actions constitute serious violations of international law and of the legal obligations of an occupying power.

Allegation of India supporting terrorist groups

Sarwani further alleged in the Security Council that there is ‘credible evidence’ that India has supported terrorist organisations such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Fitna al-Khwarij, the Baloch Liberation Army, and Fitna Hindustan; these groups have carried out attacks inside Pakistan. He also accused India of repeatedly launching attacks against Pakistan and openly encouraging terrorism against it, stating that these actions amount to grave violations of international law and the United Nations Charter. Editorial Perceptive

No matter how much theatrics Pakistan indulges in, the truth will never change and Kashmir will never become a part of Pakistan. On the contrary, Pakistan should remember that in the coming years its own existence may be wiped out!
