The case of a leader in Bangladesh threatening to separate North-East India

New Delhi – Bangladesh’s National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Hasanat Abdullah had threatened to ‘divide 7 States in North-East India and give shelter to separatist groups there’ if there was instability in Bangladesh. Taking serious note of this statement, India immediately summoned Bangladesh’s High Commissioner in Delhi and asked for a response to this threat. The two sides held talks for about 20 minutes.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s Victory Day was celebrated with a cultural programme at the Bangladesh Embassy in Delhi. High Commissioner M. Riaz Hamidullah underlined the country’s commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh, especially the younger generation, and said that the focus is on the youth population. Bangladesh was formed on December 16th, 1971, after defeating Pakistan. The Indian Army celebrates ‘Victory Day’ on this day.
