Do not call Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj anti-Muslim: Santosh Lad

Muslim-appeasing statement by Karnataka Congress Government’s Labour Minister Santosh Lad

Belagavi (Karnataka) – “The Maratha community does not regard Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as anti-Muslim. Marathas have been portrayed as anti-Muslim. We were opposed to the Mughals, but we were not opponents of Muslims. No one should call Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj anti-Muslim. No one should spread falsehoods about history. I myself belong to the Maratha community”, Karnataka’s Labour Minister Santosh Lad said in Belagavi.

If Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had not existed, everyone would have been circumcised; MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal’s counterstatement

Following Minister Santosh Lad’s statement, BJP’s suspended MLA Basangouda Yatnal responded while speaking about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, saying that if Shivaji Maharaj had not existed, everyone would have been circumcised. “I am Basangouda; I would have had to become ‘Bashir Ahmed.’ Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is an ideal figure for our nation. Installing a statue of Shivaji Maharaj in Vijayapura is not easy, because there is a large presence of Pakistan supporters there. The task of beheading traitors must now be carried out. This work will have to be completed by the year 2028,” he said.

Editorial Perspective

Despite the historical fact that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj subdued five Sultanates and established Hindavi Swarajya, Santosh Lad—who calls himself a “Maratha”—has made such statements, thereby exposing his own ideological emasculation. He forgets that had Shivaji Maharaj not existed, Santosh Lad himself would have been a Muslim today.
