‘Thang-Ta’ is a martial art that has been nurtured from ancient times in the Meitei community of Manipur. It has been preserved in Manipur not merely a martial art form, but as a legacy of the Sanatan tradition and as a spiritual discipline. Rhythmic and well-controlled movements, akin to dance and acting, is the special features of this martial art.

This art enhances agility of the body, concentration, and self-confidence. Control over breathing is considered very important in this art. The history of Manipur bears witness to the use of this martial art for protecting the land and culture from invaders. Even today, this traditional martial art is taught in the gurukuls of Manipur.

In the present times, the importance of this martial art is increasing in modern sports competitions at the national and international levels.
