Revealed in the Special Investigation Team’s inquiry

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – It has come to light that the Karnataka Dharmasthala case was a conspiracy. The entire controversy was created by anti-Dharmasthala activists. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the case has submitted its preliminary investigation report to the Beltangadi court. This information is included in that report. The report has currently declared the temple administration innocent. The team has requested additional time from the court to complete the investigation.

The SIT has named a total of six people as accused, including the complainant Chinnayya, Mahesh Shetty Timrodi, Girish Mattanannavar, Jayanth, Vitthal Gowda, and Sujata Bhatt. The investigation has revealed that Chinnayya was pressured, paid money, and compelled to give false statements.

“I had already said a conspiracy was being hatched!” – Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar

Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar said, “I had already stated in the Assembly that a conspiracy was being plotted against Dharmasthala, and now the truth has come out. Justice has been served, but the law will take its own course. Such conspiracies harm old and reputed institutions. Differences between the RSS and BJP may also be behind this plot. The full picture will become clear only after further investigation.”

What does the report say?

1. The accused procured a skull and presented it as evidence. Fake evidence was planted at various places, and pre-rehearsed statements were given on camera.

2. Several meetings related to the conspiracy were held at the house of Mahesh Shetty Timrodi.

3. Bank transaction records, electronic data, videos, and witness statements have been gathered as evidence.

What is the case about?

Near Mangaluru in Karnataka, on the banks of the Netravati River, is the Dharmasthala Temple dedicated to Lord Manjunatha—a form of Lord Shiva. On July 4, a former sanitation worker wrote a letter to the police claiming that multiple murders had been committed and the bodies buried within the temple premises. The government then formed an SIT to conduct the inquiry.

Accused Chinnayya had claimed that he was pressured to bury the bodies of more than 100 women and girls. So far, the team has excavated 17 locations, and only two sites have yielded skeletons—both of which belonged to men.
