The ceremony was attended by 2 religious scholars from Saudi Arabia, along with thousands of Muslims from Bengal and neighbouring states. Many participants symbolically carried bricks on their heads. Locals said Kabir had announced this plan last year and has now acted on it. Heavy police security was deployed, and food arrangements were made for all attendees.

“If even a single brick is laid in Babur’s name, BJP will uproot it” – Warning from UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya
Maurya said, “This is nothing but political theatre by the Trinamool Congress. Bengal will soon see a BJP government. If even one brick is placed in Babur’s name, the BJP will remove it.”
“Humayun Kabir is a BJP man” – Congress
Uttar Pradesh Congress MP Imran Masood alleged that Humayun Kabir is aligned with the BJP.
“He contested the 2019 elections on a BJP ticket. He is trying to create unrest in the country. A mosque is a place of worship. If you (Kabir) are so religious, why did you contest on a BJP ticket in 2019? Were you unaware of the BJP’s ideology then?” Masood asked.
Kabir’s political path has shifted from the Congress to the BJP and later to the Trinamool Congress, which has recently suspended him.
“Building a mosque in Babur’s name is a political act” – Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation
Athar Hussain, Secretary of the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation, said: “If a mosque is built at an appropriate site with an approved plan, religious people are free to construct it. But naming a mosque after Babur is a political statement. It undermines the genuine spirit of faith. If Humayun Kabir wants to build a mosque, he should not insist on naming it after Babur.”
Editorial PerspectiveIf tensions flare up and violence occurs because of this politically driven construction, the responsibility will fall squarely on Humayun Kabir. |
