Islamabad (Pakistan) – “Pakistan has suffered massive losses ever since the Taliban has seized power in Afghanistan. Over the past four years, 4,000 Pakistani soldiers have been killed, while more than 20,000  injured. Pakistan has consistently maintained that Afghan soil must not be used for activities against Pakistan. Continuous dialogue was held with the Taliban in this regard; however, no positive outcome has emerged so far,” stated Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. He urged the Taliban to take strict action against terrorist groups.

1. Dar further said, “We take no pleasure in closing the Afghanistan–Pakistan border; we did this purely for security reasons. Most Taliban members desire peace, but some elements oppose it. Recently, the Taliban government informed us that hundreds of terrorists belonging to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have been detained.”

2. Dar added that Pakistan’s military is prepared to assist an international force in Gaza. However, its mandate, rules, and authority must be clearly defined beforehand. “Separating Hamas from its weapons is a matter for Palestinian law. Pakistan or other nations should not interfere in this,” he stated.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Compared to the killing of thousands of Indian civilians due to Pak sponsored terrorist attacks, 4,000 Pakistani soldiers killed in Talibani attack, are a negligible number.

  • It is said that the one who sets fire to another’s house will know the suffering when his own house burns; yet, in case of Pakistan, such realisation seems unlikely.
