Statement by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar

Islamabad (Pakistan) – “Pakistan has suffered massive losses ever since the Taliban has seized power in Afghanistan. Over the past four years, 4,000 Pakistani soldiers have been killed, while more than 20,000 injured. Pakistan has consistently maintained that Afghan soil must not be used for activities against Pakistan. Continuous dialogue was held with the Taliban in this regard; however, no positive outcome has emerged so far,” stated Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. He urged the Taliban to take strict action against terrorist groups.

For a country that has sponsored terror in India and caused the deaths of thousands of our citizens, losing 4,000 soldiers to the Taliban is hardly shocking.

1. Dar further said, “We take no pleasure in closing the Afghanistan–Pakistan border; we did this purely for security reasons. Most Taliban members desire peace, but some elements oppose it. Recently, the Taliban government informed us that hundreds of terrorists belonging to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have been detained.”
2. Dar added that Pakistan’s military is prepared to assist an international force in Gaza. However, its mandate, rules, and authority must be clearly defined beforehand. “Separating Hamas from its weapons is a matter for Palestinian law. Pakistan or other nations should not interfere in this,” he stated.
