Nagpur, Maharashtra – “We do not quarrel with anyone. We stay away from disputes. Picking arguments is not in the nature of our nation. Living together in harmony, nurturing brotherhood, and strengthening collective goodwill are the true hallmarks of our tradition,” stated Param Pujya Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohanji Bhagwat. He was speaking at a programme held in Nagpur on 29 November.
He further said that many nations of the world were born out of conflict. “In such places, once an ideology takes root, no other viewpoint is welcomed. They shut their doors to alternative thoughts,” he remarked.
Not ‘nationalism’, but ‘nationality’ ! – SarsanghchalakDr Bhagwat said that Western countries fail to understand India’s concept of nationhood. “Therefore, they began calling our ideas ‘nationalism’. Our understanding of nationhood is different from that of Western nations. We use the term ‘nationality’, not ‘nationalism’. The world has witnessed two World Wars, hence some people fear the word ‘nationalism’. India’s sense of nationality has not emerged from pride or ego, but from deep self-reflection and coexistence with nature,” he explained. |
