Eight arrested for luring locals into Christianity with allurements

  • Incidents of Conversion in Uttar Pradesh (UP) exposed once again

  • Initiative by Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)

Agra (Uttar Pradesh) – Attempts at religious conversion have become a frequent occurrence in Agra, the state’s industrial city. A fresh instance surfaced in a housing development colony (Sector 7) near Jagdishpura police station. On the morning of 23 November, workers from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal learnt that attempts were underway at a house to convert Hindus. They went to the site and found a prayer meeting in progress, and numerous copies of the Bible during the ensuing search. As tensions rose, Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh, backed by a police contingent, reached the scene. The police have taken eight people, including a Christian couple residing there, in for questioning.

Local Bajrang Dal office-bearers said that assemblies were held every Sunday at the home of Vishwanath Singh Chauhan. People were lured to these gatherings with promises. Attendees were reportedly told, ‘Children will gain admission to missionary schools’, ‘Jobs will be provided’, and ‘monthly financial assistance will be given’.

According to residents, large number of people regularly gathered at the house under the pretext of prayer. A thorough investigation into the entire matter is therefore necessary.

Editorial Perspective

Despite an anti-conversion law in force, Uttar Pradesh continues to witness daily cases of love jihad and Christian conversion attempts. While Christian and Muslim groups openly defy law and order, the silence of many Hindus only emboldens such activities. This growing passivity is a matter of deep shame for Hindus who have lost their sense of religious pride !
