Ahmedabad (Gujarat) – During interrogation, the three jihadi terrorists arrested by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) – Dr Mohiuddin, Sohel, and Azad Saifi – confessed that they had planned a horrifying attack targeting devotees at major temples in New Delhi, Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), and Ahmedabad. They intended to mix a deadly poison called ricin into the prasad offered at temples to kill large numbers of people. The ATS suspects that more individuals may be involved in this conspiracy, along with the three arrested.

Ricin poison and online training

According to the ATS, the trio was directly in contact with their handler in Afghanistan, known as Abu Khadija. He had explained to them over the phone the entire process of preparing ricin. He had also sent them photographs and videos of major temples – the Hanuman Setu Temple in Lucknow, the Jagannath Temple in Ahmedabad, and other major temples in Delhi – for reconnaissance.

Use as a ‘biological weapon’

Ricin is an extremely lethal substance derived from castor seeds. According to the experts, even 1 milligram is enough to kill a human being. A quantity of ricin was found with the accused at the time of arrest. Police are considering this as a form of biological weapon. The sample has been sent to a forensic laboratory for testing.

Training on mixing poison into prasad

The terrorists revealed that they had received online training on how to mix ricin into prasad in a way that would make it undetectable. Their handler had instructed them to carry out attacks at religious places to spread fear and create communal rift.

Network spread up to Uttar Pradesh

As per ATS investigations, the attack was planned to be executed during a major festival or fair. Dr Mohiuddin, due to his chemical expertise, was the main person guiding the preparation of ricin. Sohel and Azad were associated with a madrasa in Muzaffarnagar and were linked to the Khorasan group. Currently, the Uttar Pradesh ATS is in Gujarat, working to uncover their complete network.

Editorial Perspectives

  • ‘Terrorists do have a religion, and they are Muslims’— this must be accepted as fact about terrorism in India. Hypocritical so-called secular political parties, leaders, and progressives who deny this should be duly confronted!
  • For the past 35 years, Muslim jihadi terrorists have been carrying out attacks in India. It is now time to declare this as a war waged by radical Muslims against Hindus, and enact a law mandating the death penalty for every individual arrested in such acts!
