Dreadful Condition of Mumbai, Muslim encroachments on Govt Lands

Encroachment on 10,000 sq. metres land at Malwani has been removed

Mumbai – It has been observed that Muslims have illegally settled by encroaching on big plots of the Government at different places in Mumbai. The local administration has started to demolish the unauthorised structures since the last 3-4 days at Ambojwadi in Malwani area, and a big plot of 10,000 sq. metres has been vacated by the administration. The land has been made encroachment-free by removing 280 structures. It has been observed that most of the houses were of Muslims on the encroached land. Similar illegal constructions are found at many places in Mumbai, besides Malwani.

The illegal constructions in Ali Talao area have been vacated; among them were a few 2-3 storeyed permanent structures built with concrete. It is a serious matter. Illegal shacks were constructed for many years in this area. Such encroachments are increasing day by day and there has been an unpardonable indifference exhibited by the Government or local administration; therefore, the slums area has grown on a large scale. The local elected representatives had complained about a large number of Bangladeshi infiltrators staying in these slums.

Misuse of slum-rehabilitation scheme

The Maharashtra Government provided protection to the slums built before 2000. Later, the protection was extended to the slums erected till 2011. The Government’s rehabilitation of slums scheme has been misused and slums are increasing to obtain benefits of getting free houses. Mr Mahendra Kalyankar, the Chief Executive Officer of Slums Rehabilitation Authority and Mr Saurabh Katiyar, Mumbai Suburban District Collector have instructed to file cases against the concerned individuals.
