Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka) – A controversy has erupted near the Baba Budan Swami Dargah (also known as Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Giri) after a video surfaced showing a Muslim family allegedly consuming non-vegetarian food within the 200-meter radius of the shrine, where such consumption is prohibited by a District Administration order. The area, particularly the “Hom Mandap,” is designated as a non-vegetarian-free zone due to its religious significance.

Hindu organizations have strongly objected to the incident, alleging that the prohibition norms are being violated deliberately. They have demanded strict action from the authorities based on the video evidence.

Permission for Dattamala Abhiyan Denied

Ranjit Shetty, President of the Datta Seva Ayog, stated that the administration has denied permission for the Dattamala Abhiyan during the Kartik month this year. He alleged, while restrictions are being imposed on traditional Hindu observances, enforcement appears lax when it comes to violations of the non-vegetarian ban in the prohibited area.

Sriram Sena, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and Bajrang Dal have announced that they will jointly organize the upcoming Datta Jayanti celebrations.

‘Baba Budan Swami Durgah’ is a holy site of Sri Dattatreya

The site is recognised in government records as ‘Sri Guru Dattatreya Baba Budan Swami Dargah’ and is also known as ‘Baba Budan Giri Ani Inam Dattatreya Peeth’. The region has witnessed religious disputes in 2022 and in August 2025 there was an allegation of building a fake grave in the Duttatreya Peeth. Hindu organizations have once again demanded a special investigation team to examine these claims using modern scientific methods.

Editorial Perspective

Since there is a Congress government in Karnataka, fanatic Muslims are deliberately attempting to hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. Hence, there is little likelihood of any action being taken against them by the government. Such a situation makes the establishment of a Hindu Rashtra inevitable !
