Statement by US Vice President JD Vance

Mississippi (USA) – “Usha often accompanies me to church. I hope that someday she will be inspired by the teachings there, as I once was, which led me to embrace the Catholic faith. I sincerely wish she would think likewise, for my belief lies in Christianity. However, if Usha chooses not to do so, that is entirely her choice — for God has given everyone free will, and I have no issue with that,” said US Vice President JD Vance while responding to a student’s question during an event. A student had asked him about his wife Usha’s faith. His remarks have sparked outrage among the Indian-American community, with many calling them inconsiderate and hypocritical.

I have absolutely no intention of converting ! – Usha Vance’s stand

My wife will not convert : US Vice President JD Vance clarifies

New York (USA) – “My wife Usha is a Hindu and has no intention of converting to Christianity,” clarified US Vice President JD Vance. He made this statement after facing criticism for his recent comment about his interfaith marriage, in which he had said, “Usha too will worship in the same church as I do.”
During an event at the University of Mississippi, a student had asked Vance about Usha’s faith. Responding to that, Vance offered this clarification. Writing on X, he stated, “It was Usha who reintroduced me to Christianity years ago. Though my wife has not embraced Christianity, God teaches that every individual has free will. Therefore, her choice is not an issue for me. You can always have open conversations about such matters with the ones you love.”
Editorial PerspectiveIt should be noted that since Vance expressed his opinion honestly and there was a mutual understanding between the couple, they could say this in a public forum. |
