Wrong to link Canada’s problem with India : Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Patnaik

New Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Patnaik’s clear remarks on the increasing violence by Khalistanis in Canada

Ottawa (Canada) – The issue of Khalistani activities in Canada is not an Indian problem. It is Canada’s responsibility to address what is happening inside Canada, Indian High Commissioner to Canada Dinesh Patnaik has clarified. He was responding to a question in an interview on the backdrop of increasing Khalistani violence in Canada.

1. Patnaik called the allegations that some political classes in Canada are blaming India as meaningless and ridiculous and appealed to Canada ‘to take more responsibility for its own internal security’.

2. Patnaik also expressed serious concerns about his own security. He said that he has been kept in security due to threats from terrorist groups. I find it strange that the High Commissioner of a country has to live in such conditions for his own security.

3. Patnaik said that India and Canada are currently engaged in in-depth discussions on security cooperation. This includes the issue of security of Indian citizens in Canada and control of criminal gangs like Lawrence Bishnoi operating in both countries. The security agencies of both countries are interacting with each other. Discussions are ongoing between the investigative agencies of Canada and India, and a meeting of the National Security Advisors of both countries has also been held. The process of normalizing and strengthening relations between the two countries is underway.
