Advocate Rakesh Kishore to face contempt proceedings for throwing a shoe at Chief Justice Bhushan Gavai

New Delhi – Senior advocate Rakesh Kishore, who threw a shoe in the direction of Chief Justice Bhushan Gavai, will face contempt of court proceedings. The Attorney General, R Venkataramani, has granted permission for the same after receiving a formal request. The hearing in the matter is scheduled to take place after the Diwali vacation.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court observed that reopening this issue would only give more publicity to those seeking attention, diverting the court’s time away from more important matters. Petitioner Vikas Singh pointed out that Rakesh Kishore had shown no remorse for his act and had even made statements glorifying it. In response, the court remarked that such petitions ultimately provide social media platforms an opportunity to profit from the controversy.
