(‘Gen Z’ refers to the generation born between 1996 and 2010)

Kathmandu (Nepal) – Around 540 Indian nationals imprisoned in various jails in Nepal escaped following the ‘Gen Z’ movement that took place on 9 September, according to Nepal’s Department of Prison Management.
On the day after the protests, more than 13,000 inmates escaped from prisons across Nepal. Of these, about 5,000 were Nepalese citizens, 540 were Indian nationals, and 108 were from other countries — all of whom are still absconding. Meanwhile, 7,735 prisoners either returned voluntarily or were captured and brought back.
The Nepal Government has issued a nationwide alert to trace the escaped inmates. Security agencies and prison authorities are actively searching for the fugitives.
