Only 40% Hindus left in Assam due to Muslim infiltration

  • Alarming disclosure by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

  • Muslim population reaches 39.5%

Guwahati (Assam) – The Hindu population in Assam has now fallen to just 40%, while the Muslim population has reached approximately 39.5%. The two communities are now nearly equal in number, and in the coming years, the Muslim population is expected to grow further. This increase is not due to the natural growth of local Muslims but is the result of infiltration from outside, said Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Hindus now a minority in the sacred spiritual centre of Majuli

Assam has suffered severely due to this demographic transformation. Even in Majuli, the sacred spiritual centre of the state, the Muslim population has increased by 100%. This increase has occurred due to infiltration, and now Assamese Hindus have become a minority there.

Rise in Christian population as well

The Christian population in the state is approximately 6 to 7%. These figures are based on the 2011 census. Therefore, the present reality is likely to be even more alarming. The population policy proposed by the Central Government is a decisive and historic step towards resolving this crisis.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Swatantryaveer Savarkar had raised the issue of Muslim infiltration in Assam 85 years ago and had warned of the crisis that would follow. This once again proves why he is called a visionary leader.
  • If infiltrators are not expelled on a war footing, a partition-like situation arising in the northern and eastern parts of India should not come as a surprise.
