Shri Ganesh Temple Built at Kalamboli (Navi Mumbai) Despite Opposition by religious fanatics

Fanatics create many obstacles in construction of the temple

Kalamboli (Navi Mumbai) – Shri Ganesh Temple could not be constructed in  ‘Neel Siddhi Amarante’ housing society for many years where there are hundreds of Hindu residents, as 60-70 Muslim fanatics were opposed to the construction of the temple. Fanatics tried to create obstacles through the local administration in the process of the construction of the temple. They even filed a case in Mumbai High Court spending a lot of money against construction of a temple; but permission was granted to the construction and Ganesh Temple has been built. (Editorial Perspective : Hindus, though in majority, have to fight for the construction of a temple in their own society, is the outcome of lack of unity amongst Hindus )

1. A resolution was passed in the annual general meeting of the society in 2022 for construction of a temple; but it was not constructed due to opposition by fanatics.

2. Opposition to the construction of Shri Ganesh Temple despite all residents being Hindus was very sad and shameful as per the Hindu residents. The committee of the society and ‘Amarante Ganesh Mandir Samiti’ continuously struggled and performed even ‘bhoomi-pujan’ in February 2024; but Hindus had to fight for everything due to the opposition by fanatics.

3. On 18.12.2024, the society gave an official letter for the construction of the temple after which the construction was started. It was decided that all the expenses for the construction of the temple would be borne by ‘Amarante Ganesh Mandir Samiti’ and society’s funds will not be used for this purpose. A few Hindus, however, opposed such a proposal.

4. Police advised to sort out the matter among the members but the local administration caused a delay, claiming that nothing was under its control. (Editorial Perspective : The concerned administrative officers should be punished for dereliction of duty. )

5. The developer (builder) had promised the Hindus who bought apartments in 2014 that he would construct a temple for them. He, however, gave a similar promise to even the other non-Hindu members. As the number of  Hindu members increased, they reminded the builder of his promise but fanatic members strongly opposed the temple.

6. They kept on corresponding with the municipal corporation, creating constant obstacles in the construction of the temple; therefore, the members of the temple committee had to often visit the administrative office in this context.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Congratulations to Hindus who continuously fought for construction of the temple.
  • It shows that minority religious fanatics, though less in number, create problems for Hindus.
