Judge Irfan Shaikh found to have used narcotic substances seized during investigations

Mumbai – The Bombay High Court has dismissed two judges of subordinate courts for “misconduct and behaviour unbefitting judicial officials.” Following an inquiry by the disciplinary committee, action was taken against Satara Additional Sessions Judge Dhananjay Nikam and Palghar Senior Civil Judge Irfan Shaikh.
According to media reports, Nikam had allegedly demanded a ₹5 lakh bribe through intermediaries to grant bail to an accused’s relative. Shaikh, who handled NDPS cases, was found to have been under the influence of narcotic substances himself — a fact reportedly confirmed through pathology tests ordered by the High Court administration. A petition against Shaikh is still pending before the High Court.
