Stone-pelting at Ganesh Immersion Procession from Mosque in Karnataka

Stone-pelting despite tight Police security

Mandya (Karnataka) – Ganesh-immersion procession was going through Ram Rahim Nagar in Maddur city in the district at night on 07.09.2025. Stones were pelted as the procession was passing by a mosque. A large Police staff was deployed on the route of the procession; still, Muslims took law in hands and pelted stones. The enraged Hindus retaliated with stone-throwing. Police had to resort to a lathi-charge to disperse both groups. Later, devout Hindu activists condemned the incident by waving saffron flags amidst slogans of ‘Jai Shriram’.

1. Senior Police officers rushed to the place of the incident, talked to both groups and calmed them down.

2. The stone-pelting started at around 500 metres from the mosque, reported the Police. Superintendent of Police of Manyda, Mallikarjun Baladandi, informed that cases have been filed in connection with this violence.

3. Hundreds of Hindus gathered and staged demonstrations on 08.09.2025 in the morning to condemn the incident, leading to another stone-pelting. Police had to cane-charge the people to bring the situation under control.

History of riots in the Mandya district

Last year, a similar incident had occurred when stones were thrown from a mosque on an immersion procession at Nagamangala in this district. Rioters had set many shops on fire at that time.

Arrest of 21 Muslims – District’s Guardian Minister

Mandya district’s guardian minister Cheluvarayaswami informed that while registering his opinion on the incident that 21 Muslims have been arrested in this connection and among them, there can be 2-3 outsiders. Two stones were pelted even towards the mosque, as per the report. Immediate action has been taken; still, the BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) are playing politics under the guise of agitations. No cases have been registered against Hindus, nor is anyone arrested. (Editorial Perspective: If Hindus have not committed any crime, why should any cases be filed against them? We condemn Congress leader Cheluvarayaswamy for talking as if Hindus have been obliged by showing mercy. )

Situation under control – Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara

The situation is under control in Maddur city. Curfew has been imposed in the city due to a rise in tension in the area, and additional Police staff have been deployed, stated State Home Minister G Parameshwara.

Such incidents would not have occurred without the Congress Government’s provocation – BJP

The Congress Government’s attitude is making us feel as if we are in Pakistan. Similar incidents have been happening for the past two years. After the conflict at Dharmasthala (issue of defamation of Hindu’s place of pilgrimage) and Banu Mushtaq, now their gangs have become active even in Maddur. The Government is directly responsible for this incident. Such incidents cannot take place without the Government’s provocation.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Is it in India or Pakistan that stones are thrown at the Ganesh immersion procession?
  • The attack took place despite Police security. Please note, it means that Muslims pay no heed to even the Police in the Congress-ruled State.
