It is in America’s interest to build good relations with India

Washington – After U.S. President Donald Trump imposed import tariffs on India, the Indian Prime Minister has been strategically and intelligently maneuvering all moves. Considering this, it is in America’s best interest to build strong relations with India, said Professor Edward Price of New York University, a foreign affairs expert, in a conversation with the news agency ANI.

Many former senior politicians and officials within the U.S. itself have been criticizing Trump’s arbitrary style of governance.

Price further stated:

1. Prime Minister Modi is smart and is taking steps with great caution. Russia no longer holds the same level of influence. President Putin is trying to restore Russia’s dominance to the level of the Soviet Union, but this is a challenge for him because today China has far greater global influence than Russia, and even Russia is now under China’s influence.

2. India does not want to fall under China’s sphere of influence, because India is an independent sovereign nation. In such a situation, it is highly unlikely that India will permanently accept Chinese dominance.

3. Prime Minister Modi is merely reminding America that India too has several options. However, Modi will not side with China or Russia, which is why he did not attend the Chinese military parade.

4. Trump’s trade advisor Peter Navarro once referred to the Ukraine war as “Modi’s war.” Criticizing this statement, Price said, “There is no need to take Navarro’s remark seriously. This is not Modi’s war, it is Putin’s war. It is surprising that such a statement comes from a senior U.S. official. America’s true interest lies in building good relations with India. If I were in charge of America’s trade policy, I would never have imposed tariffs on India.”
