Former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde regrets using the term ‘saffron terrorism’

Mumbai – Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram, while being the Union Home Minister, first used the term ‘saffron terrorism’ in 2010. Later, former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde also used the term. Over time, Shinde changed his mind and admitted that ‘I should not have used the term saffron terrorism’. He also admitted that the Congress party had asked him to use this term. He said, “Terrorism is not saffron, red or white. Terrorism is terrorism. At that time, I said what was on the record. The Congress party had said that saffron terrorism is active.”

Sushil Kumar Shinde, who retired from politics over time, said, “I used the word terrorism; but I don’t know why I used it. I shouldn’t have used it. It was wrong to say ‘saffron terrorism’. That is the ideology of that party.”
