New Delhi – The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition filed by Mohammad Javed, an accused in the murder of Kanhaiya Lal from Udaipur (Rajasthan). The petition sought a ban on the screening of the film ‘Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailer Murder’. It was argued that ‘the screening of this film may affect the ongoing case in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court in Jaipur. A ban on the screening of the film is necessary for fair justice’.

What is the matter?

In 2022, Mohammed Riyaz and Mohammed Ghaus murdered Kanhaiyalal over a post he had shared on social media supporting the then BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s alleged insulting remarks about the Prophet Muhammad. Some other people also collaborated in this murder. Mohammed Javed is one of these accused.
An Islamic organization called ‘Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind’ has filed petitions in three different High Courts against this film, calling it religious.
