Stampede at the Jaganath RathYatra : 40 Devotees injured

Last year too there was a Stampede

Jaganath Puri (Odisha) – More than 40 devotees have been seriously injured in the stampede during the Jaganath Rath Yatra here in Puri. It is being said that this incident happened near Shri Nahar (the Kings Palace). Some the injured became unconscious. They were rushed and admitted to Puri’s Medical Collage.

On the first day of the Rath Yatra, that is on the 27th of June the crowd had gathered near the Palace of Gajpati Divya Sanghdev for the ‘Pahadi’ ceremony. The administration found it difficult to control the crowds. This created confusion and stampede in the people gathered there. Last year too there had been a stampede and a devotee had been died in it.

Editorial Perspective

This means that the Administration did not learn any lessons from last years’ incident. The government should immediately imprison the administrative officers who were not able to control the crowd.
