India is now the 5th country to have developed laser weapon technology after US, China, Israel and Russia
Kurnool (Andhra Pradesh) – India has successfully tested a laser-based weapon, joining the ranks of the US, China, Israel and Russia. The test was conducted at the National Open Air Range in Kurnool. The 30-kilowatt laser-based Directed Energy Weapon MK-4 (A) can destroy enemy drones, missiles and surveillance sensors within seconds. The weapon has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
How does the laser system work ?
When a target is detected by radar or its built-in electro-optic system, this laser weapon can attack it at the speed of light and destroy it with a laser. The feature of this system is that it does not require the use of any ammunition or rockets; it attacks only with light. It can destroy a group of drone attacks at the same time. Silent operation, meaning it destroys the target without sound and smoke.
