Information on the issue of import duty by External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar
New Delhi – It is too early to assess the impact of increased import tariff by the US. India had planned a strategic bilateral trade deal with the US by the end of this year, informed India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, while speaking to a news channel.
Dr Jaishankar added,
India’s response to this issue is very balanced and measured. Even we cannot predict what is the actual impact. We will not react in a hurry. We are moving towards making a deal.
India is perhaps the only country to sign a trade agreement in principle with the US after Donald Trump assumed the US presidency for the second term. Very soon this issue will be discussed with the Trump Administration and by the end of the year the negotiations on bilateral trade agreement will be completed.
