Mumbai – Nerul Police Station and ‘Markaz-e-Falah’ had jointly organised an Iftar party on 18thMarch in Nerul East. The invitation for the event was issued in the name of Markaz-e-Falah and carried the signature and logo of a senior officer from Nerul Police Station. However, due to strong opposition from Hindutva groups, the Iftar event was cancelled, citing law and order concerns. (Congratulations to the vigilant and prompt Hindutva activists of Nerul – Editor)

1. Upon learning that the Police were organising the event, VHP activists contacted Nerul Police Station. They opposed the program, referencing the recent Nagpur riot and the fatal attacks on the Police. The VHP also submitted a letter of protest to the Police. Considering this, the Iftar party was called off.

2. A journalist contacted Senior Police Inspector Brahmanand Naikwadi of Nerul Police Station for a statement, but he declined to comment.

3. Advocate Akash Jagtap revealed that the logo used on the Iftar party invitation was illegal. (Will action be taken against those responsible ? – Editor)

Editorial Perspectives

  • Police who take the initiative to organise Iftar party are never seen arranging religious programs for Hindus. It wouldn’t be wrong if Hindus feel that the Police are favouring other religions’ followers.
  • The same Police who pamper their guests through such parties end up getting beaten by them during riots. The recent Nagpur riot is still fresh. If someone says that Nerul Police Station is committing suicide by indulging in such ‘Gandhigiri,’ would they be wrong ?
  • When Satyanarayan Puja is held in a Government office, so-called secularists scream about the death of secular democracy. Where are they hiding now ?
