London (UK) – “We are waiting for the day when the part of stolen Kashmir that Pakistan has illegally occupied returns to India. Once Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) becomes part of India, all the issues related to Kashmir will be permanently resolved—I assure you of that’, India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said during an interview at Chatham House in London on the topic—India’s Rise and Role in the World.

During the discussion, someone asked Dr Jaishankar, ‘How will India resolve the Kashmir issue ? How will peace be established there ?’ In response, he explained that the peace process in Kashmir is happening in three phases. He said, ‘The first step was to remove Article 370, which we have already completed. We did this to bring peace to Kashmir. The second phase involves increasing economic activity, development, and social justice in Kashmir. The third phase focuses on strengthening democracy by increasing voter participation. We recently conducted elections in Jammu and Kashmir’.

US’ policies will benefit India

When asked about the policies of US President Donald Trump, Dr Jaishankar responded, ‘Under Trump’s leadership, the US Government is moving toward a new order. These policies are beneficial for India. Both countries agree on the need for a bilateral trade agreement’.

Border issues with China are crucial for India

When asked about what kind of relationship does India want with China, Dr Jaishankar said, ‘We have a unique relationship. India and China are the only two countries in the world with a population of over a billion. Our histories are very old, with ups and downs over time. Today, both nations are progressing, and we are also neighbours. As a country grows, its balance with the world and its neighbours shifts. The key issue is how to maintain that balance. We want stable relations where our interests are respected—that is the main challenge in our relationship with China’. He further emphasized, ‘Borders are a crucial issue for India. For the past 40 years, there has been an understanding that peace and stability along the border are essential for improving relations. If the border remains unstable or lacks peace, it will undoubtedly impact our bilateral relations’.

A video has surfaced showing Khalistani supporters creating a ruckus in front of Dr Jaishankar’s vehicle after he left the Chatham House. As he was leaving, some Khalistani supporters on the other side of the street were shouting slogans. When Dr Jaishankar got into his car, one of the Khalistani supporters suddenly ran in front of his vehicle and tore down India’s national flag. The London Police personnel standing nearby then moved him aside, allowing Dr Jaishankar’s convoy to proceed. This incident has sparked outrage among Indians, with many questioning the London Police : ‘Why did they act as mere spectators ? Were they supporting the protesters ?’(It has been observed before that London Police are sympathetic toward Khalistanis. Even when Rishi Sunak, of Indian origin, was the Prime Minister, no strict action was taken against Khalistanis ! – Editor)
