Delhi HC says banning students from using mobile phones in school is impractical

New Delhi – Technology has now become an essential part of education. Mobile phones help children stay connected with their parents, ensuring their safety. Therefore, students cannot be banned from bringing mobile phones to school. However, schools should formulate policies regarding their use and monitor them accordingly, the Delhi High Court has ruled. A petition was filed in the High Court by a student from Kendriya Vidyalaya demanding a ban on the use of mobile phones in school, but the Court dismissed the petition.

The High Court said that there should be penalties for violating smartphone usage rules in schools, but they should not be too harsh. The Court suggested that, if necessary, schools may confiscate mobile phones as a disciplinary measure.
