Take strict action against unauthourised sellers of ‘High-Security Registration Plates’: Surajya Abhiyan’s demand to the Govt

Thane (Maharashtra) – The Maharashtra Regional Transport Office (RTO) recently issued a warning to unauthorised sellers exploiting the system by selling counterfeit ‘High-Security Registration Plates’ (HSRP). This action follows the discovery that these unauthorised sellers were offering fake plates at low prices. The use of counterfeit plates raises serious legal and safety concerns.

The organisation Surajya Abhiyan has written to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, urging the implementation of the UnionGovernment’s directive to ensure that old vehicles are fitted with HSRPs. The organisation has also called for HSRP installation to be made accessible to out-of-state vehicle owners at reasonable prices and for strict action against unauthorised sellers.

Surajya Abhiyan’s Maharashtra coordinator, Abhishek Murkute

Surajya Abhiyan’s Maharashtra coordinator, Abhishek Murkute, has requested the central authorities to consider the following measures to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of the system,

1. Regardless of their current place of residence, out-of-state vehicle owners should be allowed to get HSRPs installed at authorised registration centres. This would eliminate the need for long-distance travel and help them meet the required deadlines.

2. Vehicle owners should have the option to register for HSRP installation online or through mobile units, enabling them to install the plates at their convenience.

3. Authorities must take firm measures to prevent unauthorised vendors from exploiting the system and selling counterfeit plates. Additionally, awareness campaigns should be launched to educate citizens on the risks associated with fake plates and emphasise the importance of visiting Government-approved centres for installation.

4. To ensure transparency and ease of the process, the online booking system should be expanded, allowing vehicle owners to choose convenient installation centres.

5. To prevent overcharging, the pricing of HSRP should be standardised across India. The Union Government should implement a national policy to regulate HSRP prices.
