Incidents in Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation

Vasai, Mumbai – The Information Commission has taken punitive (punishable) action against 39 officers and employees of Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation for violating the RTI Act as they were not providing information on time, incorrect and incomplete information, etc.

Complaints about the officers who were reluctant to provide information were continuously registered. These officers had to face punitive action from the Information Commission. Some officers had to face action twice and some thrice. This information came to light under the RTI Act sought by Mahesh Kadam, Palghar District President of the ‘Right to Information Federation’. The highest fine consists of Rs 25,000, while the minimum is Rs 2,500. This total amount happens to be Rs 2.76 lakh.
