I do not agree with calling Hindu-Muslim lovers as Love Jihad

Statement of Union Minister of Social Justice Ramdas Athawale

Mumbai – The state government has appointed a committee to prevent incidents of Love Jihad; but the National President of the ‘Republican Party of India’ and Union Minister of Social Justice Ramdas Athawale has opposed it. While interacting with the media in Shirdi, he said, “I am against the ‘Love Jihad’ law. Hindu-Muslim boys and girls come together and get married. Therefore, it is wrong to call it Love Jihad; however, there should be a provision in the law so that conversions do not happen after marriage. The incidents of forced conversion of Hindu girls are increasing. Such cases should be stopped. Those who convert should be severely punished.”

Editorial Perspectives

  • It is a universal and eternal truth that if a person does not agree with a reality, that reality does not become wrong or untrue. That is, it is equally true that the Hindus will not forget those who turn a blind eye to the reality of ‘Love Jihad’ for the sake of politics during elections.
  • While decisive steps are being taken towards enacting a law to curb Love Jihad in Maharashtra, in fact, the Union Minister of Social Justice should make this law nationwide and provide justice to the society in the true sense. It should be kept in mind that rejecting the concept is shirking responsibility.
