Varun Sagar Lake and Maharishi Dayanand Rest House

Ajmer (Rajasthan) – Rajasthan Government has changed the name of King Edward Memorial (Rest House) to ‘Maharishi Dayanand Vishrant Grih’. Similarly, the name of Lake Foy Sagar has been changed to ‘Varun Sagar’. MLA Vasudev Devnani representing North Ajmer constituency and the speaker of the State Legislative Assembly (SLA) recently informed that on issue of the notification by Ajmer Municipal Corporation, the process of change of name of the lake and memorial has been completed.

1.Mr Vasudev Devnani stated that the name of 132-year-old Lake Foy Sagar was given after a British engineer which has been changed to ‘Varun Sagar’ after the Deity Varun.

2.Devani further added that the statue of Varun Devata will be consecrated here in due course and a ‘ghat’ will be built where people can sit and pray.

3.The SLA-Speaker stated that the 113-year-old King Edward Memorial Rest House has also been renamed as ‘Maharishi Dayanand Vishrant Grih’. Maharshi Dayanand breathed his last in Ajmer.

4.Vasudev Devnani said that 77 years after India’s independence, there have been a few signs of colonial subjugation in Ajmer, creating a slavish mentality in us; therefore, the Government decided to change these names.
