New Delhi—The Joint Parliamentary Committee presented its report on the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament. On 13th February, committee chairman Jagdambika Pal tabled the report in the Lok Sabha, while BJP MP Medha Kulkarni presented it in the Rajya Sabha. This led to chaotic disorder in both houses, resulting in their adjournment for a certain period. Opposition parties alleged that objections raised against the bill had been omitted from the report, causing the commotion.
1. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, stated that the report is fabricated and that the objections raised by the opposition have been erased. He termed this move unconstitutional.
2. AAP MP Sanjay Singh remarked that they had presented their arguments, and while people may agree or disagree, how could their objections simply be discarded like trash ?
3. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, responding to these objections, said that opposition members are free to add their views as per parliamentary procedure, and his party does not object to this.
4. After Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned, Congress MPs, including Priyanka Vadra and Rahul Gandhi, staged a protest outside Parliament, accusing the BJP of using the Waqf Amendment Bill to spread hatred.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, chaired by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, presented its report in Parliament.

This Bill is meant to end Waqf: Asaduddin Owaisi
AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) MP Asaduddin Owaisi claimed that the bill is unconstitutional and violates Articles 14, 15, and 29 of the Constitution. According to him, the Bill is not intended to protect Waqf but to destroy it and seize mosques, dargahs, and cemeteries from Muslims. (As per the current Bill, Waqf will not be dissolved, but its annulment is deemed necessary for India. The Government must show determination to proceed, regardless of opposition – Editor)
