Supreme Court Reprimands Political Parties

New Delhi – The Supreme Court, during a case hearing, observed that people are unwilling to work because they receive free rations and money. Instead of providing free rations and financial assistance, it would be better to integrate such individuals into the mainstream society so that they can contribute to the country’s development.

1. A bench comprising Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice Augustine George was hearing a case related to providing shelters for homeless individuals in urban areas. During the hearing, Attorney General R. Venkataramani stated that the government is in the process of finalizing the urban poverty alleviation program, which will help provide housing for the urban homeless along with addressing other significant issues.

2. The Supreme Court directed the Attorney General to consult the government and inform the court about the implementation timeline of the program. The next hearing for this case is scheduled to take place in six weeks.

3. Earlier, before the Delhi Assembly elections, the Supreme Court had remarked, “State governments have funds for free schemes but lack funds to pay judges’ salaries and pensions.” At the time, the court cited examples of Maharashtra’s “Ladki Behan Yojana” and the promises made by political parties before the Delhi elections.
