Three students get injured while getting ragged at a nursing college in Kerala

Five students are arrested

Accused students

Kottayam (Kerala) – A case of ragging of junior college students in a Government nursing college has been reported. In this case, five senior students removed the clothes of 3 first- year students. A dumbbell was kept on their private parts, then they were injured with a compass and some sharp items. Some ointment was applied on their wounds which increased their pain. When the students started shouting with pain, ointment was put even in their mouth. All the three students are studying in the first year and are residents of Thiruvananthapuram. A video was also shot of the incident. They were threatened with serious consequences if they say a word to anyone about the ragging. One of the students informed his father, who lodged a complaint with the Police when the incident came to light.

The accused students have been expelled from the college and arrested under anti-ragging law. These students used to collect money from their juniors to buy alcohol and used to thrash when the junior students refused to give them money.

Editorial Perspective

It is the result of not teaching moral values and spiritual practice to students. When a person, though educated, commits a crime, it shows a lack of culture and humility in him, and it also emphasises flaws in our education system.
