Taslima Nasreen attacked for putting her book up for sale

Dhaka – Jihadists attacked a Sabyasachi Publishing stand at a book fair in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka. The bookseller was selling a book by Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen. Enraged by this, the jihadists surrounded the Sabyasachi Publishing stand and then attacked it.
Reacting to the attack, Taslima Nasreen said, “Keeping my book for sale was the crime of the owner of the bookshop. The book fair Officials and Local Police ordered the removal of my book. Even after the book was removed, the jihadists attacked the centre, vandalised it and closed it down. The Government is supporting these jihadists and jihadist activities are spreading across the country.” Bangladesh’s interim Government’s chief adviser, Muhammad Yunus, has expressed displeasure over the incident and ordered an inquiry into the incident. The Sabyasachi Publications stall set up at the book fair has currently been closed.
