High-handed and arrogant behaviour of a Hindi speaking officer with an 82–year-old maharashtrian senior citizen

Mumbai incident

Mumbai – Mr Ramesh Parkhe (82 years) from Dombivli was forced to speak in Hindi at the Mahapex exhibition2025 organised by the Maharashtra State Level Exhibition. The personnel at the exhibition said, ‘you can go and complain at any level about the matter, nothing untoward will be done to me.’ Mr Parkhe the concerned Marathi senior citizen has filed a complaint against the concerned officer.

Parkhe had asked at the exhibition for the items he wanted to purchase in Marathi. The officer at the stall said, ‘We shall not attend to your request, if you do not speak in Hindi. You will have to speak in Hindi to tell us what you want to buy. We are not bothered if you complain about us, you may go anywhere and at any level nothing untoward will happen to us.’ (This insulting behaviour will not be tolerated in a Marathi majority Maharashtra – Editor) Parkhe responded that this arrogant and discriminatory behaviour while living in Maharashtra is extremely inappropriate.

Editorial Perspective

The State Government has announced that it is promoting the use of Marathi in all official interactions in the State. But it is extremely unfortunate that at the very same time a Hindi speaking officer behaves in an arrogant and discriminatory manner with a Marathi speaking senior citizen. Will the government take action against the offending officer ?
