Prayagraj, 2.2.2025 – The crowd in the Kumbha Kshetra is increasing. However, the Police are proving ineffective in managing this rising crowd and the traffic system. On 2.2.2025, the traffic arrangements were seen collapsing. Police stationed on the roads were merely setting up barricades instead of actively managing devotees and the crowd. The Police are not adequately trained to control traffic, raising concerns about how they will handle both traffic and the massive influx of devotees.
During the Mauni Amavasya Amrit Snan, a major cause of the tragic incident was the failure to control the overwhelming crowd. The Police have begun making announcements via loudspeakers; however, their measures remain insufficient. Only the pontoon bridges have been closed, and devotees are being advised not to crowd the ghats. In reality, no concrete action has been taken to control the devotees on the roads. On the contrary, barricades have been set up at every junction across Kumbha Kshetra, leaving minimal space for movement. This has led to congestion at multiple points, worsening the crowd situation. The closure of roads using barricades has further increased crowding.
