New regulation by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)

New Delhi – The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a new rule that provides an extension for keeping SIM cards active without recharging. Under this regulation, any mobile service provider’s SIM card can remain active for up to 90 days without the need for a recharge.
Jio SIM card
After 90 days, Reliance Jio SIM card must be reactivated. Based on the last recharge plan, incoming calls may be blocked for a month or a few weeks. If the SIM is not recharged even after this period, it will be deactivated permanently, and the number will be allocated to another user.
Airtel SIM card
Airtel SIM card users will get an additional grace period of 15 days after the 90-day period. During this time, it is mandatory to recharge the SIM. Failure to do so will result in permanent deactivation, and the number will be assigned to a new user.
Vodafone-Idea (Vi) SIM card
To keep a Vodafone-Idea SIM card active beyond 90 days, a minimum recharge of ₹49 is required.
BSNL SIM card validity rules
BSNL SIM cards can remain active for a longer period without recharge, up to approximately 180 days. This makes it a suitable option for those who want to avoid frequent recharges.
Rs 20 Plan for 30 days
If a SIM card remains active for 90 days and has a balance of Rs 20, it will not be deactivated for the next 30 days. In such cases, users can continue using the SIM card for up to 120 days.
