Kalpavasa begins from Magha Purnima on January 13th

What is Kalpavas ?
Kalpavas refers to a sacred spiritual practice undertaken by seekers during the Kumbha Mela. Kalpavasis, as they are called, reside in the Kumbha Mela area for a period of one month, from Magha Purnima to Pausha Purnima, dedicating themselves to spiritual disciplines such as pilgrimages, chanting the names of Deities, meditation, and self-reflection. While the traditional Kalpavas lasts for a month, some devotees choose to stay for shorter durations, while others extend their commitment up to 12 years.
Prayagraj – The Kumbha Mela Kshetra is fully prepared to welcome the Kalpavasis observing the Kalpavas Vrat (spiritual vow) at the sacred Sangam of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. Kalpavasis from across the country have started arriving at the Kumbh Kshetra.
The administration estimates that 20 to 25 lakh Kalpavasis will participate in this year’s Maha Kumbha Mela. The Kalpavas vrat is observed during the one-month period from Magha Purnima (January 12th) to Pausha Purnima (February 13th). Entire families often participate in the Kalpavas tradition, bringing with them the essentials needed for their month-long stay.
To support the Kalpavasis, the administration has arranged food, accommodation, hospitals, and other essential facilities, ensuring a comfortable and spiritually enriching experience for all participants.
