Case of the murder of 2 Congress leaders in Kerala

Kochi (Kerala) – A CBI Court in Kochi has sentenced former Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA K.V. Kunhiraman and 3 others to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment and 10 activists to life imprisonment in the murder case of 2 Congress leaders. Congress leaders Kripesh and Sarathlal were murdered in Periye in Kasaragod District of Kerala in October 2019. K.V. Kunhiraman had assisted the killers. Of the 24 accused in the case, 14 were convicted by the Court, while 10 were acquitted due to lack of evidence. Earlier, the Kerala Police was investigating the case; however, the High Court passed an order to hand over the case to the CBI. (It was only because of the CBI investigation that the ruling CPI(M) workers were charged and punished. This shows that the Kerala Police had tried to suppress the case – Editor).
