First Maha Kumbh after renaming of ‘Allahabad’ to ‘Prayagraj’

Prayagraj Kumbh Mela 2025

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) – This year’s Maha Kumbh Mela is the first to be held after the renaming of the city of ‘Allahabad’ to ‘Prayagraj’. It is set to begin on January 13th,2025. The decision to change the name of the city of ‘Allahabad’ to Prayagraj was taken by the Yogi Adityanath Government of Uttar Pradesh on October 16th, 2018. In 2019, the Ardh Kumbh Mela (Kumbh Mela held every 6 years) was held in Prayagraj; but this year’s Kumbh Mela is the biggest Kumbh Mela that comes after 12 years. The administration has estimated that 40 crore devotees will attend this year’s Maha Kumbh Mela.

The symbol of slavery destroyed after 443 years

Since ancient times, the name of Prayagraj was ‘Prayag’. In 1575, the Mughal ruler Akbar changed the name ‘Prayag’ to ‘Allahabad’. Since then, it has been called ‘Allahabad’. The name was not changed even after the country’s independence. In 2017, Yogi Adityanath, a staunch Hindu and Mahant of Gorakhpur Muth, became the Chief Minister of the State of Uttar Pradesh. Within a year, on October 16th, 2018, the name ‘Allahabad’ was changed to ‘Prayagraj’. After 443 years, the symbol of slavery was destroyed. Due to this, all the devout Hindus, including Saints and Sages, and devotees from all over the country expressed satisfaction. Since the Maha Kumbh Mela is being held for the first time after this, an atmosphere of excitement has been created among the devotees, including Saints, Sages and Hindu devotees.

Why is this year’s Kumbh Mela called ‘Maha Kumbh Mela’ ?

A Kumbh Mela is held in Prayagraj after every 12 years. The previous Kumbh Mela was held in 2013. The Kumbh Mela that comes after the completion of 12 such Kumbh Melas is called ‘Maha Kumbh Mela’. This is happening in Prayagraj after 144 years. Therefore, this year’s Kumbh Mela is called ‘Maha Kumbh Mela’. In view of this, the Yogi Government and the administration have geared up to make this year’s Kumbh Mela grand and Divine. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has assured the devotees, saying, “We will make this year’s Kumbh Mela so grand and Divine that you will forget all the previous Kumbh Melas.’

First major Kumbh Mela after the Union government removed the surcharge on railway tickets

The Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj is the first major Kumbh Mela after the removal of the surcharge (additional fee) on railway tickets. Therefore, Hindus will not have to pay any additional fee to attend the Kumbh Mela this year as well. On December 12th, 2018, the Union Government had given relief to crores of Hindus by removing the surcharge on railway tickets. Before that, the Railway Department was charging a surcharge during every Kumbh Mela. Due to this, Hindus had to pay more than the usual railway fare to attend the Kumbh Mela. Against this, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had staged a major agitation during the entire Kumbh Mela held in Nashik in 2015.
