High Commissioner met Taliban diplomat without permission

Male (Maldives) – The Maldives has recalled its High Commissioner to Pakistan Mohammed Toha, who met Taliban diplomat Sardar Ahmed Saqib in Islamabad on November 1 without any permission from the Maldives Foreign Ministry. The two leaders discussed Afghanistan-Maldives relations. Maldives recalled him from Pakistan as he met a Taliban diplomat without permission. According to the local media of Maldives, Toha was sent in July 2024 as High Commissioner to Pakistan.
Since the Taliban took over afghanistan in August 2021, it has wanted to establish diplomatic relations with various countries; but no country has yet recognised its Government. Several countries such as Pakistan, China, Russia and Iran have begun establishing diplomatic relations with Afghanistan; but none of the Governments has approved it.
