Beware of ‘Date Jihad’

Bengaluru, Karnataka – We had heard a lot about ‘Love Jihad’ in the past. ‘Spit jihad’ has recently been in the news. Now the news of ‘Date Jihad’ has come to light. Renowned spiritual Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has said that ‘in some places dates kept for sale are chewed and then the seeds are removed from them’. A video about this was widely circulated on social media a few days ago. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said, ” They (Muslims) are removing seeds from dates. There are many people standing in the factory and they are chewing dates and removing seeds from them. They say that they are making dates halal (holy according to Islam).’ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar further said, “O God, this is an extremely wrong thing. So, never touch the dates from which seeds have been removed.”
Dates are grown in most Islamic countries. If ‘halal’ is written on the packet of dates, then be sure that ‘oral halal’ was done (seeds are removed by chewing dates). Retired IAS Officer Surya Pratap Singh also warned while ‘sharing’ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s video.
