Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) – Rakesh Tikait, National Spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Union said that India’s situation is similar to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Like Bangladesh, the movement can also happen in India. On 20th August 2024, Rakesh Tikait had come to Meerut to discuss the grievances related to electricity at the office of Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam in Meerut. He was talking to reporters at that time.
Tikait added that more than 750 farmers sacrificed their lives in the farmers’ movement; but the Union Government did not say anything about it. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister announces free electricity to farmers; however, there is a condition for installation of meters. Farmers will not allow meters to be installed on coupon lines. If the meter is installed, it will be removed and deposited in the electricity office.
Tikait also commented on the role of the media. Stating that the incident of rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata was deplorable, he said that the kind of coverage seen in the media about the incident was not seen during the incident in Manipur.
