New Delhi – Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), a key ally in the BJP-led coalition, has voiced its opinion on Modi’s initiatives such as the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Agniveer Scheme and ‘One Nation One Election’. JD (U) General Secretary and Spokesperson K C Tyagi reiterating the party’s earlier stance on the matter; emphasised the need for consultations with all States to understand their perspectives on these issues.
Tyagi reiterated the party’s support for the ‘One Nation One Election’ initiative. However, he highlighted significant opposition to the Agniveer scheme, which affected the NDA in the Lok Sabha elections, hence warranting a reassessment. Regarding UCC, Nitish Kumar has conveyed to the Chairman of ‘Law Commission’ that while the party is not opposed to it, a comprehensive discussion is essential. Tyagi emphasised they continue to have the same approach.
Demands special status to Bihar
Tyagi emphasised that it is a long-standing demand for special status to Bihar, stating that it is crucial for stemming the tide of migration from the State.
