Muslim women gather at UP Congress’ HQ for ‘Guarantee Card’

Congress had made a pre-election promise of giving ₹1,00,000 annually to women and youth

Lucknow (UP) – A strange scene was witnessed in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh (UP), on the very next day after the results of the Lok Sabha elections. From the morning of 5th June, a large number of Muslim women gathered outside the UP Congress’ Party office and began demanding the guarantee cards assured by Congress in a pre-poll promise. Many women also submitted the Congress guarantee card they had already received, filling in their name, address, and number, in the party office. Some women claim they have also received a receipt from the Congress office after filling out and submitting the guarantee card.

The Muslim women said that during the election campaign, Congress had promised to give money, and now INDI Alliance (Congress and its allies) had performed well, ‘so we have come to submit the guarantee card’.

What is Congress’ guarantee card ?

In its manifesto, the Congress has promised ₹1 lakh for women belonging to SC, ST, and backward categories. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge started this campaign from the party office in New Delhi on 3rd April. Under the ‘Yuva Nyay Yojana’, every educated youth was promised ₹1 lakh annually and under the ‘Nari Nyay Yojana’, every woman from a poor family was assured of ₹1 lakh annually. Additionally, it also pledged a minimum daily wage of ₹400 under the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and legal guarantees for MSP based on the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission, along with loan waivers. The card provides spaces at the bottom for filling in personal details such as name, age, number of voters in the household, address, and mobile number. It also features a QR code. Congress workers were given the responsibility of distributing these guarantee cards door-to-door. Even after the elections, they continue to hand out the cards.

Editorial Perspective

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that BJP faced a loss in UP as Muslims voted for Congress in large numbers due to this Guarantee Card assured by Congress ! This means that Muslims have yet again stood by the Congress. Hindus need to realise this.
