145 applications received from Karnataka for Indian citizenship under the CAA

Bengaluru – 145 people from Karnataka have applied for Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Of these, 143 applications are from Raichur and 2 from Dakshin Kannada. Most of the applicants are Hindus from Pakistan.

Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, and Parsis who came from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan before 31stDecember 2014, are eligible for Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The notification was issued after the Act came into effect on 11thMarch 2024. The responsibility of verifying and distributing citizenship certificates has been assigned to the post and railway employees. An estimated 12,000 people across the country have applied for citizenship under the CAA, and so far, 300 individuals have been granted citizenship.
